Memorial Chapel restoration at St Stephen’s

St Stephen’s Art Centre Update May 2026 – The Memorial Chapel is refurbished, the arch repaired and windows replaced. The kitchenette has improved taps and storage. We are planning to replace the carpet and purchase a fridge. A piano will be purchased so that high quality musicians may hire the room.

The works required for drains is being investigated and costed.

A Community Impact assessment will start on 12th June 2026. Interviews are being held on 2nd June 2026.

The full reordering project, that is disabled access, improved toilets and heating, is dependent on the success of the Meeting Room being used more regularly. The Diocese is supportive of this, particularly given the importance of the Church as a fine example of John Middleton architecture (Grade 2 listed) and the Norman and Beard organ.

Ordination 28th June 2026 10.15am Gloucester Cathedral

On 28th June we are invited to join the team in supporting three ordinands at their ordination. This will replace St Stephen’s and St Peter’s normal service. There is an 8am said Communion Service at St Peter’s, Leckhampton as an alternative.

There are actually 4 ordinands in the team: Melissa Webb and Sarah Wood are both at St. Peter’s and are being ordained on 28th June. Melissa is staying in the team, at St. Peter’s, but Sarah is leaving to serve her curacy at St. Paul’s, Shurdington.

Then, we also have Kay Edwardes, who is based at Pip & Jim’s and will be ordained in June 2027; and there is Shaun Locke, who is at St. Peter’s, and will be ordained in 2028.

A prayer for the ordinands

Loving God, we thank you that you call each of us to serve you.
Bless both Melissa and Sarah as they prepare to be ordained this year.
Bless also Kay and Shaun, as they continue their training for ordination in the coming years.
Amen
